ALL surviving spouses
have
75 % subsidy under CIP!
A correction has been made to our premium tables on 5/24/05 because of the discovery, by us, that under CIP surviving spouses leave their unsubsidized dependent status on the death of their retiree mate and get the preferred 75% subsidy he or she enjoyed. Furthermore, if s/he is the survivor of an active employee, and s/he is receiving a survivor's annuity, then s/he also gets the 75% subsidized status under CIP.* Neither the Administration nor Local 1600 have so far alluded to this important feature.
CCC surviving spouses of retirees always join the unsubsidized 10+ group (after three months free insurance), no matter which phase of retirement their former spouse was in when s/he died. Surviving spouses of active employees, under CCC's plan, receive three years of health insurance for which s/he must pay the total cost and then are not part of any plan at all any more.

Savings for all surviving spouses with CIP A note on our numbers:
Our numbers here, as everywhere on this site, are the latest numbers -- the calendar 2005 Local 1600 premiums for CCC and July 1, 2005-June 30, 2006 premiums for CIP. Local 1600 has been using last year's numbers -- calendar 2004 for CCC and July 1, 2004-June 30, 2005 for CIP. We think the latest numbers are more appropriate. But no matter which set of numbers you use, you come up with similar results, except the latest numbers usually give CIP a little more savings. Remember, it is extremely likely that CCC will have premium increases in January 2006.
