for your legislators  (phone, FAX, e-mail)

2.  Go the State Universities Annuitants Association website (www.suaa.org)

On this site,  you can  directly send an on-line e-mail to your legislators.

  • click on “Write Your Legislators”
  • click on “My Elected Officials”
  • put in your address
  • click on the name of your Senator/Representative
  • click on “Send Message”
  • prepare and send e-mail

THE MAJOR POINT YOU WANT TO  MAKE IN YOUR COMMUNICATION

You are asking for their support of the proposed amendment to the State Employee   Group Insurance Act  which  would allow City Colleges of Chicago retirees to participate in the College Insurance Plan.

Other points you might choose to mention are:

1.  All Illinois community college retirees are covered by this plan EXCEPT

those from the City Colleges of Chicago.

2.  The existing subsidy to the City Colleges from the State Retirees’ Health

Insurance Grant  is only enough to subsidize approximately $40 per month

per participant towards health care premiums which is only about 10% of the cost.

3.  In contrast, other Illinois public educational retirees from the elementary level up to

university employees receive net subsidies of from 50-100% of their health care

premiums. Specifically, other Illinois community college retirees under the College

Insurance Plan receive a combined subsidy of  75% from the state, their school

districts and the contributions of active members.

4.   Insurance costs for those Chicago City Colleges retirees  no longer covered under

Early Retirement have more than doubled since April, 2004.  As a result, they

are now paying premiums that are $3300-$4200 more per year for individual PPO

coverage as compared to other community college retirees under the College

      Insurance Program.

5.  Repeat that you  are enlisting their  support to remove this inequity by supporting the

amendment  to include City Colleges of Chicago retirees in the College Insurance

Plan and thank them for their consideration.
